HEALTH - Day 1
5.5 mile run around Los Altos, CA. Nice to be running in a t-shirt and shorts in December.
HEALTH - Day 1
Day 1
Age, Height, Weight, Blood Pressure, Heart Rate, Glucose
My life revolves around these categories. Loosely known as vital signs, they provide a window into a person, a glimpse from afar. I can make judgements, observations, diagnoses, sometimes before even seeing the person. It is a marker of life, of disease. The numbers are dynamic - some will not change, others can change within seconds. Seeing the compilation of numbers, an image forms, a paradigm - although not exact, often it is fairly accurate.
For Example:
Age: 26
Ht: 5'4"
Wt: 115
BP: 110/60
HR: 60
Glucose: 80
vs
Age: 86
Ht: 5'10"
Wt: 250
BP: 150/90
HR: 90
Glucose: 280
Even without a background in medicine, we are able to make observations / assumptions about people based on those numbers. Who they are, their appearance (in general), their relative health.
I have spent some time looking at these numbers for other people, always subconsciously thinking about my own numbers. Although not grossly abnormal, I know the consequences of letting those numbers deviate too much. And so, like many, I struggle to reach my goal.
It is at this moment in my life where I seem to have a slight reprieve, where I can devote a bit more focus to these numbers and the goal I would like to reach - and more importantly, maintain for a lifetime. They are, as follows.
Now
Age 28
Ht 5'11"
Wt 230
BP 130/85
Glu - Unk
Goal
Age - whatever it may be
Ht - hopefully not shrinking just yet
Wt - 200
BP 125/80
Glu - anything <100 fasting would be great with me
My timeframe is from now until June - the next stage of my life. It will be difficult, possibly resulting in failure, but it is something to reach for.

Introduction
12-18-08
Health, Wealth and Wisdom - very few have it, almost all of us struggle towards it. This blog will be varied, but will always focus on improvement - physically, mentally, even financially.
Whatever comes of this blog, it will be one thing - real. Goals, achievements, failures - things I have learned and things I want to know more. It will be opinion, but, hopefully, balanced. My hope is that it will serve as extra motivation for myself, and maybe for a few others as well.
It may last one day or one lifetime - but, wherever this blog leads, it starts today.
